Rev. Jacob F. Hoover, Sr., 96, of Shippensburg went home to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, September 27, 2019 at his daughter's home in Shippensburg with loving family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1922 in Newville and was a son of the late Jacob F. and Grace Mae (Garlin) Hoover. Rev. Hoover was married for 64 years to the late Pauline E. (Cornman) Hoover, who passed away on January 31, 2011.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Jake had worked for the former Carlisle Shoe Co. and retired in 1984 from the former Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co. with more than 20 years of service. He served as the Pastor of the Triumphant Church of God in North Middleton Twp. and retired in 1984 with 29 years of service. After retirement, Rev. Hoover and his late wife attended McClure's Gap Church of God in Newville, where he taught Sunday School Class and Men's Bible Class. Upon his wife's death, he resided at his daughter's home and listened faithfully to Pastor Charles Stanley.
He is survived by two sons; Jacob F. Hoover, Jr. of Mifflintown and Marlin E. Hoover of Carlisle, two daughters; Helen C. Johns of Shippensburg and Elizabeth Ann Rickrode of Chambersburg, one sister, Viola F. Smith of Carlisle, six grandsons, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, his companion of seven years, Debra Anderson of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Clarence and Oscar Hoover, two sisters; Helen Miller and Pauline A. Hoover and one son-in-law, Rodney Rickrode.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Lewis Splain officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Upper Frankford Brick Church Cemetery, Newville. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
