Sergeant (Ret) Jack L. Woods, US Army, 89, of Carlisle, died on September 27, 2014, at home with loving family by his side. He was born on June 5, 1925, in Nowata, OK, a son of the late Roy C. and Eula (Riley) Woods and was married to the late, Christine (Kiehl) Woods, who died April 26, 1989.

Jack was a retired US Army Sergeant and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He served his country for more than 20 years and earned numerous honors and medals including; the WWII Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, UN Service Medal, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and Four Loops. He retired from the US Army, May 31, 1964. Jack then worked 17 years with the Defense Distribution Mechanicsburg and also was a driver for the former Marshall Vans, Inc., Carlisle. He formerly attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. Jack was a long time member of the Elks Lodge, White Circle Club, Moose Club, Eagles, the V.F.W. and the St. John's Masonic Lodge, all of Carlisle. Jack's memberships also include; Mt. Holly Springs American Legion, Shippensburg's Minnequa Social Club, Walnut Bottom Rod & Gun Club and the Cherokee Nation Tribe. Jack enjoyed deep sea fishing and golfing with his friends.

He is survived by two daughters; Ginger L. Hollister Leonard (Shawn Leonard) and Yvonne (Carlos) Sanchez, both of Carlisle, one son, Jack L. Woods, Jr. of Florida, two sisters; Marjorie J. Monroe of Nowata, OK and J. Carol Tatum of Oologah, OK, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by one daughter, Sherran Barder, one brother, Everette Woods, one sister, Betty Teachman, one great-grandson, Robert L. Hollister, III and two son-in-laws; Robert L. Hollister, Sr. and Joseph P. Barder.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery with military honors provided by Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
