Obituary

Captain Jack R. (Buzz) Greenwood, retired US Navy, passed away May 1, 2025, at the age of 88.  He was born on December 8, 1936, in Denver, CO to parents Jack Francis Greenwood and Delma Ferree Greenwood, and spent most of his childhood years in Valley, NE.  He graduated from Doane College, double majoring in mathematics and chemistry. He earned a Masters of Political Science from Auburn University, and did further graduate work in International Relations at American University, and Business Administration at Shippensburg University. Jack earned the designations of Chartered Life Underwriter and a Certified Financial Planner by the American College.  He is survived by his beloved wife Donna; daughter Erin Greenwood; and step-daughter Niki Williams.

Jack retired from the US Navy in 1985 after 26 years of service, first and foremost, as an Aviator.  He was also a combat veteran of the Viet Nam War; a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Staff College; a graduate of and Professor/Senior Navy Rep at the U.S. Army War College; a Professor at the Naval Academy, a squadron commander of a TACAMO (VP-3) squadron in Guam during the Cold War.  After military retirement, Jack entered the financial services field and held the position of Managing Partner for 26 years before retiring from the MassMutual agency in Camp Hill.  To this field he brought his leadership skills, his love of all things mathematical, as well as his life purpose of serving and helping others.

Over the years, Jack was a member of Rotary, eventually serving as President; the Domestic Violence Services Board in Carlisle; the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Board eventually serving as Chairman of the Board; and the Concertante Chamber Players Board, among others.  He was an avid golfer, wine collector, tireless traveler, and gardener.  Best of all, Jack loved people, found humor in most situations, and embraced life with deep gratitude for its many blessings.  We will miss him immensely.

Jack requested a private closure to his life.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any charitable donations in memory of Jack Greenwood be sent to the Harrisburg Symphony, 800 Corporate Circle, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.  Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, PA is graciously handling all the arrangements.
