Obituary

Helen Louise,(Sampson), Leer of York Springs, Pa, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. She is now resting in peace in the presence of God.

She was born in Carlisle, PA, August 29, 1942 to the late Beatrice Marie (Stough), and Harvey Lee Sampson.  She grew up in a busy family consisting of 11 siblings.  She also spent a lot of time with her grandparents, Clarence and Alda, Stough. Her family affectionately knew her as "Gert".

Helen is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Leer (Yolanda) and Mark Leer (Dorcas); her daughters, Tammy Brown (Ronald) and Robin Miller(Andrew); Her brother Michael Clever; her sisters, Margaret Fagan, Sue Geyer, Nola Ramos and Marie Keller;  her grandchildren, Carmen Bartoletti (Greg), Matthew Leer (Rachel), Megan Davison (Kyle), Rachel Weber (Ben), Cody Leer, Elizabeth Brown, Kurt Miller, Kimberly Miller; and her great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Joshua, Albert, Caelyn, Kolton, Clark,  Rowen, Allison, Caroline, Dylan and Peter.

She worked in Continental Ceramics, where she met and later married Ronald Leer. They were married 25 years. She worked at Musselman's Canning Company until she retired after working there more than 30 years.

She enjoyed watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren in sports and music activities. She also enjoyed taking them to Walmart and McDonald's. Those who worked with her enjoyed her contagious sense of humor. She lived her last few years at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community where she provided many humorous memories for residents and staff alike.  She is remembered for her Faith, love of Family and wit. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. James Day officiating.  Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
