Harold L. Shughart, 82, of Carlisle, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle. He was born on January 18, 1933 in Carlisle, a son of the late E. Raymon and M. Ellen (Eppley) Shughart Miller, and was married to the late Elizabeth "Libby" Ann (Minnich) Shughart, who died May 26, 2006.
Harold graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1951. He worked and retired with Book of The Month Club, Mechanicsburg and for 16 years with U. S. Steel Co. Harold worked as an officer with the North Middleton Twp. Police Department and the Cumberland Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. Harold was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member of the Cumberland Star Lodge 197 F&AM, the Zembo Shrine Band, the St. John's Loyal Arch Chapter, the St. John's Knights of Templar and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and was an honorary band member of the Tehama Temple, NE. Harold loved music and played with many bands, Windjammers International and 58 years with the Carlisle Band. He volunteered in many capacities within Carlisle Community, including Boy Scouts, Carlisle Area School Board and was a former President of the Carlisle H. S. Band Boosters.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda L. (Ronald) Long of Carlisle, three sons; Brian L. (wife, Ruth) Shughart of Barnesville, Brent L. (wife, Lisa) Shughart of Carlisle and Bruce L. (wife, Dawn) Shughart of Fairfield, one brother, Sherwood E. Shughart of Oxford, one sister, E. Arlene Myers Funt of Carlisle, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by one son, Bradford L. Shughart, two brothers; Lester and Glenn Shughart and one sister, Dorothea Meyers.
A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Rob Moore and Rev. Fred Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Carlisle Town Band.
