Obituary

George F. Mason, Sr., 93, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 in the Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community, Carlisle. He was born on October 29, 1923 in South Williamsport, and was a son of the late Carlisle Weaver Mason and Martha B. (Schneider) Mason Dawes

George was a 1942 graduate of South Williamsport High School. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was the holder of seven bronze stars. He attended the former Williamsport Technical School and retired after many years of service as an electrician with Local 812. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in South Williamsport, and a member of the Masonic Ivy Lodge #397, Baldwin II Commandery No. 22, Lycoming R. A. Chapter #222, Adoniram Council #26, Scottish Rite Valley of Williamsport, A.A.S.R. and the Williamsport Conclave Red Cross of Constantine.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Rita M. (Williams) Mason, three sons; Rev. George F. (wife, Rev. Ardelle) Mason, Jr. of Shanksville, Joseph C. (wife, Linda) Mason of Williamsport, MD and Thomas L. (wife, Diane) Mason of Mechanicsburg, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Charles Mason.

A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with The Rev. Judy Strayer officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. Memorial contributions may be made to his church at 324 S.
