King

George L. King, 101, died Saturday June 29, 2024 at Green Ridge Village, Newville Pa. Born September 8, 1922 in Carlisle Pa. he was a son of the late George A. and Clara Cornman King.
George graduated from Carlisle High School in 1940. He enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps in 1942 during WWII and saw service in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany acquiring the rank of T/5 and receiving three battle star medals. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
George graduated from Bliss Electrical School in 1948 and went to work for General Electric that same year working in Pittsfield Ma. as an Engineering Assistant (1948-1956) and in Philadelphia Pa. as a Senior Electrical Drafting Designer (1956-1982). He retired from General Electric in 1982 after 34 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 477 Carlisle, Pa. and Perry Historians. He was also a member of North Middleton Twp Fire Co., G E Quarter Century Club, National AARP, Friends of the Bosler Library, and the Cumberland County Historical Society.
George was a confirmed bachelor. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Viola K. Cornman, Esther K. Penner, Effa K. Barrick, and Isabel E King and two brothers: Wm. Robert (Bob) King and Charles E King. He is survived by various nieces and nephews and their children.
