George W. Howard, 89, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. He was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Baltimore, a son of the late George P. and Lydia A. (Jones) Howard, and was married to the late Edna (McCommon) Howard, who died Jan. 16, 2012.

George was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He was a machinist and had worked for the Industrial Machine, Inc. in Baltimore for many years. He was a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons; Dennis G. Howard of Baltimore and Robert J. Howard of Libby, MT, his longtime friend and caregiver, Robert L. Surfield, Jr. of Carlisle and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Viewing will be from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs.
