Dr. George P. Branscum, Jr. M.D., 77, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at UPMC Carlisle.  He was born on May 25, 1946, in Little Rock, Arkansas and was a son of the late George P. Branscum, Sr. and Izelle (Sisco) Branscum.

George graduated from the Marion Academy in Marion Alabama, earned his degrees from the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas School of Medicine.  Dr. Branscum served in the U. S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and was assigned to Dunham Clinic, US Army War College as Chief of Clinics.  He resigned his commission at the rank of Major.  He then joined Belvedere Medical Center Family Practice in Carlisle.  After retirement from family medicine, Dr. Branscum served as a medical director for many area nursing homes.  He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Carlisle.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years Judith (Hefelfinger) Branscum, one son Brett P. (wife Charity) Branscum of Pittsburg, one grandson Jaxon M. Branscum and one brother John T. Branscum.  He was preceded in death by one brother William H. Branscum.
