Obituary

Gary Charles Peters, 77, of Plainfield, passed away on Monday October 6, 2025, at The Gardens at West Shore. He was born on December 17, 1948, in Carlisle to the late Charles Ray Peters and Irma Marie (Donnelly) Peters.

Gary graduated from Carlisle High School with the class of 1966. After High School he joined the army and served with the 17th Air Cavalry unit, he also did a tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. After his time in the Army, he went to work for Capitol Products for the next 20 years where he was a manufacturing manager. After his time with Capitol, he went on to work for General Mills and Wiremold. Gary loved bass fishing on lakes and the Susquehanna River, playing golf, and a good sprint car race all with his son, Brian and his best friends Gary Taylor and Daren Slaybaugh. He also cherished his time cruising around in his 1989 Firebird Trans Am GTA. Gary was a Lion with the Plainfield Lions Club since 1980, he served as past President and Secretary numerous times and was awarded both the Melvin Jones award and Lion of the Year award. He was very active in all the Lions Club fundraisers. Gary was also a member of the Doublin Gap Church of God.

Gary is survived by his son Brian C. Peters of Harrisburg, one granddaughter Brianna K. Peters of Harrisburg, one Sister Carolyn Sherriff of Carlisle, and his Ex-Wife Margaret "Peggy" Peters of Carlisle.

A visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 15, 2025, followed by a celebration of life at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St. Carlisle, with Pastor Don Snyder officiating. The burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Plainfield Lions Club.
