Knisely
February 16, 1932 – September 7, 2019
Edward "Ed" Knisely, 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill. He was born on February 16, 1932 in Dillsburg and was the son of the late George H. and Dorothy (Beck) Knisely.
Ed graduated in 1950 from the Dillsburg High School. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War. Ed was the second-generation owner and operator of Knisely's Pet & Farm Center in Carlisle, which opened in 1960. He served 25 years as a Deputy Game Warden in Cumberland County. Ed also owned and operated K & K Carriage Company, K & K Farms, and Ed Knisely Snow Removal, all of Carlisle. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Carlisle, the Boiling Springs V.F.W., and a life member of the Carlisle Elks Lodge.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Shirley A. (McClure) Knisely; their children Stephen E. (Jacalyn) Knisely of Boiling Springs, Denise M. Barker of Carlisle and Jere A. (Joyce) Knisely of Manheim; his sister, Joan Reinecker of Reinholds; his grandchildren Alyssa (Ryan) Holstay, Ashley (Mike) Satkovich, Matthew (Krista) Barker, Christopher (Betsy) Barker, Gregory Knisely, and Katie Knisely; and his five great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by one son-in-law, W. Hall Barker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4 th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 5 th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church located at 647 Forge Road in Carlisle, PA. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5 th following visitation at the same location, with Rev. Bruce Fensterbush officiating. Burial will be private. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Ed's name be made to the Cumberland County 4-H Program (payable to "PSCE Program Fund-Cumberland County 4-H", 310 Allen Road, Suite 601 Carlisle, PA 17013) and The Otterbein United Methodist Church (647 Forge Road Carlisle, PA 17015). Ewing Brothers Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
