Obituary

Florence R. Fisher, 82, of Carlisle, passed away with family by her side on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services in Carlisle. She was born on Monday, October 15, 1928, in West Pennsboro Twp., Cumberland County, and was a daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Commerer) Highlands and the widow of Emory A. "Buzz" Fisher, who died March 9, 1984.

Florence was a Carlisle High School graduate and also held a Radio Engineering license. She worked in radio sales and management for nearly 50 years. She served several radio stations during her career, including WHYL and WIOO both of Carlisle. Florence just recently retired from WIOO because of her health. She was a member of St. Michael's Anglican Church in Enola, where she was an active volunteer and cook. She was formerly a member of several community organizations, including the Cumberland County Democratic party. Florence enjoyed cooking, gardening, bird watching, bargain shopping, spending time with her family and the companionship of her two canine friends, Maggie and Lady.

She is survived by two daughters; Karen K. (and her husband, Robert) Szwiec of Niceville, FL and Donna R. (and her husband Donald) March of Carlisle, grandchildren; Alicia Livingston, Robert Szwiec, Rebecca ODonnell-Greeger, Patrick ODonnell, Alison Krom, Adam March and Jordan March, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra K. Railing, who died June 25, 2008, two brothers; Robert and John Highlands and sisters; Gladys Highlands, Doris Morrison, Mildred Scully, Julia Vogelsong, Martha Shughart Heffelfinger and Hazel Group.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011, in the St. Michael's Anglican Church, 1825 Good Hope Rd., Enola, with Right Rev. William M. Sloane officiating and Rev. Father Donald L. March as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. Viewing will be held from 6 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the services at the church.
