Flordella V. "Dell" Foote, 82, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 16, 1930, in Carlisle, to the late Emory C. and Elmira (Failor) McDilda and was the widow of John H. Day, who died Dec. 18, 1973 and James G. Foote, who died March 8, 1996.
Dell was a 1949 graduate of Boiling Springs High School. She had worked for the former Carlisle Shoe Co. and retired from Miller Bus Co., where she drove school bus for the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. Dell and her late husband James, formerly owned and operated Foote's Inn located in Potter County for many years. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Carlisle, Old Bellaire Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a life member and past President of V.F.W. Post 8851 Ladies Auxiliary in Boiling Springs. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and was the coordinator for the Carlisle Shoe Co. benefit shows for many years. Dell was a talented artist who worked in oils, charcoal, and pencil; in 1948, she walked away with top honors at the Carlisle Fair, winning a first and two second prizes. She also enjoyed crafting custom jewelry for family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters; Deena M. Engle and her companion, Stephen Nedimyer of Carlisle, with whom she lived, Beverly Cordier and her husband, Stephen of Boiling Springs, and Pamela Laudermilch of Carlisle, one son, James Foote and wife, Kathy of Texas, a son-in-law, Robert Whitcomb of Carlisle, two sisters; Evelyn Varner and husband Leroy of Carlisle and Deanna Rose and husband Howard of Boiling Springs, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dell was preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Whitcomb and her brother, Emory McDilda.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and service at 1:30 p.m., at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, with Reverend Daniel Dennis. Dell's final gift was to donate her body to Humanity Gifts Registry to further research and education. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the United Methodist Home for Children, 5120 Simpson Ferry Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
