Obituary

Evangelia "Angie" Mazias, 62, of Carlisle, passed to eternal life on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. She was born on December 21, 1948, in Neohorion, Greece, a daughter of the late Athanasios G. and Panagiota G. (Loupas) Zarkadas.

Angie was a young bride and had family obligations to fulfill and thus was not able to complete high school. In 1991, she decided to earn her high school diploma from Carlisle High School. She and her husband have owned and operated for many years the "Hamilton Restaurant and Lounge" in Carlisle. Her generosity and kindness touched the lives of so many people. Angie gave selflessly never expecting anything in return. Angie was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Camp Hill, a board member of Syllogos Neohoriton of America and a member of Saint Catherine Philoptochos Society.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Thomas A. Mazias, two sons; Athanasios T. (and his wife, Evangelia A.) Mazias and John T. (and his wife, Aglaia J.) Mazias, both of Carlisle, one brother, George A. (and his wife, Olga) Zarkadas of Carlisle, two sisters; Lamprini J. (and her husband, John T.) Balafoutas of New Oxford and Georgia A. (and her husband, Andreas A.) Asimakakis of Greece, four grandsons; Michael Gabriel, Thomas J., Theonas J. and Tommy A., all of Carlisle and many extended family members including her dear aunt and friend, Helen Kollas of Carlisle.

Angie will be remembered as a sister, wife, mother, aunt, and a true friend by not only her immediate and extended family but by patrons of the Hamilton and others who were fortunate to know her. Most of all, she will be remembered as "yiayia" to her four grandsons who truly were her pride and joy. Not a day passed that she did not make time for her "boys" either chasing them around the Hamilton, taking them to church services, attending their school and sports functions, or popping in during the evening with goodies (cupcakes, cookies, chocolate bars, or raspberries) to say goodnight.

Viewings will be held from 1 - 4:00 p.m. and 6 - 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September, 11, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. A Trisagion service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday with Father Kostas Petrogeorge officiating. Services and burial will be held in Greece at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Dr., Camp Hill, PA 17011 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society-Central PA, 800 Corporate Circle, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
