Esther M. (Sollenberger) Jacoby, 98, of Newville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 27, 2021.
She was born May 13, 1922, in Newville and was a daughter of the late Ira N. and Emma (Heberlig) Sollenberger.
She was the widow of Robert B. Jacoby, who died April 22, 2009.
As a young girl, Esther helped her father and mother on their farm along with her four sisters, and she supported her husband in farming for more than 30 years after they were married. She and her husband enjoyed many years of horseback riding and going on trail rides. She was a lifetime member of the Bonny Brook Riding Club. She and her husband also enjoyed riding motorcycle after retiring from farming.
Esther retired from the former Newville Shoe Co. after many years of service in the cutting department. After her retirement she enjoyed helping with Easter egg making at her church, gardening, canning, and she also babysat a little girl.
She was a life-long member of the Newville Church of the Brethren.
Esther always enjoyed playing games, dancing, and listening to gospel and country music.
In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by four sisters, Ellena R. Giordano, Virginia R. Chronister, Edith E. Nelson, and Pearl E. Bowman, and a son-in-law, Ronnie L. Nester.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna M. Nester of Carlisle and Rebecca J. (and her husband, David) Herr of Newville; four grandchildren, Bryan Nester, Todd (and his wife, Alicia) Nester, Brittni Herr (and her husband, Kelly) Zdunczyk and Karlyn Herr (and her husband, Adam) Miller. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Desarae Nester, Collin Nester, Alison Nester, Madison Nester, Jacoby Miller, Jesse Miller, and Levi Zdunczyk; and two great-great-grandsons, Jaiden Scott and Ma'Kai Rayne.
Private services will be held at the convenience of her family with the Rev. John Hess officiating. Burial will be held in the Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newville Church of the Brethren, 14 Carlisle Road, Newville, PA 17241.
