Erwin C. Hess, 97, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. He was born on August 8, 1927, in Carlisle and was a son of the late John Hess and Bessie (Garman) Hess. Erwin was married to the late Helen (Clausen) Hess, who died May 3, 2006.
Erwin graduated from Carlisle High School and was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII. He retired from the former McCoy Electronics in Mt. Holly Springs where he was a purchasing agent with over 30 years of service. He formerly attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle. He was a longtime member of the Carlisle Moose, Carlisle V.F.W., Carlisle Eagles and the Mt. Holly Springs American Legion. Erwin enjoyed playing pool and golfing and played in several area leagues for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Heidi (Gary) Blauser of Dover and Gretchen (Gregory Jr.) Miller of Carlisle, two sons, Joseph (Keni) Vrataric of Lancaster, CA and Nick (Debbie Ambill) Vrataric of Hanover, 7 grandchildren, Calvin, Abigail, Janelle, Kyra and Hope, BJ and Adrianne and 2 great-granddaughters, Roselyn and Bailey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Patricia Bucher, three brothers, George, John and Morris Hess and two sisters, Rhoda Schlegel and Frieda Moyer .
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. The burial will be private at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Twp. with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard. www.EwingBrothers.com
