Emma J. Mell, 94, formerly of Newville, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. She was born on October 17, 1930, in Duncannon and was a daughter of the late Isaac Henry Edward Longacre and Catherine (Rheem) Longacre. Emma was married for 65 years to the late Lester V. Mell, who passed away on May 28, 2015.
She retired from the G. S. Electric Co. in Carlisle after many years of service and had worked at the Carlisle Garment Factory for several years.
She is survived by three sons, Gregory (wife Lynndel) Mell and Steven E. Mell (Jackie Grove), both of Carlisle and Daniel K. Mell (Natalie Hoffman) of Newville, three daughters, Sharon L. (husband Gary) Rhoads of Carlisle, Deborah A. (husband Stephen) Henry and Jody L. Mell, both of Shippensburg, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Edward "Sonny" Longacre and two sisters, Ruth Garman and Audrey Chastain.
A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle. Pastor Neal McCullough will lead the service. The burial will be in Centerville Memorial Park in Penn Twp, Newville.
