Obituary

Ekaterini "Irene" A. Katsaounis, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 surrounded by her loving family in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born in Neohori, Nafpaktias, Greece, and was the daughter of the late Athanasios and Evdokia (Karageorgios) Lois. She was the widow of Athanasios C. Katsaounis, who passed away on January 17, 1999.

Irene and her late husband owned and operated the former St. Charles Restaurant in Carlisle from 1952 to 2002. She was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill and the St. Catherine Philoptochos Society. Irene enjoyed time with her family, attending church services, gardening and reading her religious books and the Greek newspaper.

She is survived by one son, Christos A. Katsaounis of Carlisle, two daughters; Vasiliki (and her husband, Konstantinos) Katsaounis-Mazias and Maria A. Katsaounis, both of Carlisle. Irene was preceded in death by one daughter, Evdokia A. Katsaounis, one sister, Mary Kollas and one brother, Anthony Lois.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Dr, Camp Hill, PA 17011, with Rev. Michael Varvarelis officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle where the Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
