Edward Todd Scholly, 78, of Carlisle, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. He was born on September 4, 1945, in Johnstown and was the son of the late Edward L. Scholly and Thelma D. (Clark) Scholly. Ed was married to the late Cecilia Ann (Havay) Scholly who passed away on October 19, 2009.
Ed was a graduate of Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown, PA and the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout Ed's life, he personally and professionally served his faith, his country and his communities. He retired from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg where he was the Director of the Catholic Cemeteries. Ed was a longtime active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ed enlisted in the US Army in 1963 and followed his active duty as a commissioned officer USAR, LTC, retired with more than 36 years of service. Ed served his communities on the Mt. Holly Springs Borough Council, the Board of Directors of the Amelia Givin Library and Moose Lodge 761. Ed was a member of the American Legion, Post 674 and AmVets, Post 274.
Ed is the father of and survived by Edward (and his wife, Melissa) Scholly, Robert (and his wife, Brenda) Scholly, Rebecca (and her husband, Jeremy) Toner and the grandfather of 1st Lt. Nicholas Scholly, USMC, Bryan Scholly, Derek Scholly, Luke Toner, Julia Toner, Kassandra Scholly and Stella Scholly. Ed is the oldest brother of Joseph (Esther) Scholly, Donald (Patricia) Scholly. James (Doreen) Scholly, Kathleen (Thomas) Lensie. Ed was preceded in death by one brother John "Jack" Scholly survived by his wife Barbara. Ed was a proud Great Grandfather, an Uncle to many and friend to many many more.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, with Rev. Don Bender as the celebrant. The burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for a viewing on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, where a Prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Patrick Catholic Church of Carlisle, PA or a charity of your choice in honor of Edward T.
