Obituary

Edward C. Olson, 63, of Gardners, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Harrisburg Hospital. He was born on Saturday, September 20, 1947, in Oconto, Wisconsin, a son of the late Harry R. Olson and Elizabeth (LaFortune) Olson.

Ed graduated in 1965 from Peshtigo High School in Peshtigo, WI. He also graduated from Career Academy of Broadcasting in Milwaukee, where he was employed by WITI-TV. Ed then attended and graduated from Nixion Clay College in Austin, TX. Ed was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and served with the 75th Combat Support Group with the 4th and 91st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadrons. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Ed worked and retired from SCOA Industries in Columbus, Ohio, where he was a manager and district manager in retailing in PA, MD, NY, LA and TX. Ed was also employed with J. Baker and Meidiso. Ed was a member and former officer of the V.F.W. Post 7343, a member of the American Legion Post 674, and the Lions Club, all of Mt. Holly Springs. He was a past member of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee, served on the Executive Board, Judge of Elections and was an Area Leader. He was involved in many activities in South Middleton Twp. including; emergency services, a past auditor, chairman of the first recycling committee and also ran for Township Supervisor. He enjoyed fishing, throwing darts,NASCAR #17 - Matt Kenneseth and attending the Green Bay Packers football games, where he was a a shareholder. In 1985, Ed started the South Mountain Dart League. He was of Lutheran faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Nancy A. (Jones) Olson, a sister, Mardell L. Verbanac of Mounds View, MN, two brothers; Robert A. Olson and Larry L Olson, both of Peshtigo, WI, three sons; P. J. Symons and John Symons, both of Lovell and Brian Symons of St. Clair, three daughters; Debra Vince of Allentown, Cynthia Tilinski of St. Clair and Nancy Wickard of Boiling Springs, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline officiating. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until time of services. Private burial with military honors will be held on Thursday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
