Edward A Essl Jr Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday May 20 at 11:00 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle. A social luncheon will follow.
The celebratory mass will be live streamed for those who are unable to travel and wish to participate. Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle. PA 17015.

Edward Albert Essl Jr, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community. He was born in Atlantic City New Jersey September 10, 1932.
Upon graduating St Josephs University in Philadelphia in 1955 he accepted a commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force. Ed retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel.
December 26, 1955 Ed married Marianne Opps, the love of his life. Together they embraced the military life. Over the years Ed and Marianne called many places home. During these years they welcomed three daughters Gerianne, Denise and Christiana.
When Ed accepted a position with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania the family moved to Camp Hill, PA. In retirement Ed and Marianne traveled visiting many European and Asian countries. Often returning to their happy place O'ahu Hawaii.
Ed and Marianne spent the last decade plus of life in the Carlisle Community Cumberland Crossings developing new friendship and continuing to enjoy life. Ed passed peacefully with family.
Edward was preceded in death by Marianne Essl (wife) and Denise Essl Haley (daughter). Surviving Gerianne Smitley (daughter), Christiana Melton (daughter husband Rex), Jessica Zemiatis (granddaughter, husband Mitchell), Amanda Smitley (granddaughter husband Zachary), Rebecca Haley (granddaughter) and Peyton Zemaitis (great granddaughter).
Celebration Mass and reception will be held at a later time. A private inurnment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. www.EwingBrothers.com.
