Edna M. Howard, 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012, at Chapel Pointe Health Center, Carlisle. She was born on Thursday, September 29, 1921, in Cumberland County, a daughter of the late John L. and Annie M. (Jumper) McCommon.

Edna was a 1941 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and graduated from Bard Avon Business School in Baltimore. She retired after 33 years of service from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in Baltimore, where she was a secretary. Edna was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, George W. Howard, one brother, Harvey (and his wife, Lois) McCommon of Carlisle, two step-sons; Dennis and Robert Howard, several step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by four brothers; John, Samuel, William and Mervin McCommon and two sisters; Elizabeth Waltrick and Anna Rider.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Rev. Jan Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Twp. Viewing will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
