Earl "Buzz" Warren Arter, Sr., 79, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. He was born on May 15, 1936 in Carlisle, and was a son of the late George P. Arter, Sr. and Rachael (Gumby) Arter.
Earl was a 1954 graduate of Carlisle High School and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Earl retired from the former Embarq Telephone Co. (now CenturyLink) after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of West Street A.M.E. Church and the Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826, where he was a former Post Commander. Earl enjoyed reading, jazz music, taking care of his home repairs and expressing words of encouragement to his co-workers, friends and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Barbara Ann (Hodge) Arter, two daughters; Sylvia and Renee Arter, both of Harrisburg, two sons; Taren (Alice) Arter of Carlisle and Earl Arter, Jr. of Coatesville, one brother, Richard (Rose) Arter of Harrisburg, two sisters; Jean Carter and Rachel (Bill) Tanner, both of Medford, Mass., 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Earl was predeceased by two brothers; Carl "Tim" Arter and George "Jose" Arter and two sisters; Julia Doleman and Delores "Sue" Arter.
A viewing will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 4, 2015 followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Robert Reed officiating. Burial will be private.
