Obituary

Douglas Scott Mullen, 60, of Bluffton, SC and Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in LifeCare Hospitals, Mechanicsburg after a three-year battle with cancer. He was born on May 8, 1956 in Carlisle, and is a son of Anna (DeWalt) Mullen of Carlisle and the late Jack F. Mullen.

Doug graduated from Carlisle High School with the class of 1974. He also graduated from the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, FL with a degree in airplane mechanics. Doug worked as a parts manager for the former Longs Volkswagon dealership in Carlisle and owned several businesses, which included a landscaping and an audio-visual business both in Naples, FL. Doug was an accomplished metal fabricator and race car mechanic. He held a private pilot license since the age of 19 and still had ownership interest in a plane. Doug enjoyed being a pilot, being involved with vintage auto racing, fishing and music. He was also formerly involved with his sons in the Boy Scouts of America. Doug was affiliated with the FAA, AOPA and the SVRA.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons; Robert Scott Mullen of Orlando, FL and Nathaniel Riley Mullen of Naples, FL, one sister, Tammy Schall of Carlisle, two brothers; Cassius Mullen of Bluffton and Addison Mullen of Lakeworth, FL, one nephew, Erik Schall, two nieces; Mercedes and Jaclyn Schall and his life partner, Gail Kiewlen of Bluffton, SC.

A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 followed by a time of remembrance and sharing at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle. Burial will be private in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. www.Since1853.com.
