Obituary

On September 10th, 2024, beloved husband, father, brother, soldier and friend, Douglas "Doug" Wayne Barrick passed away at Hampden Medical Center with his devoted wife, Brandi by his side.   Our soldier battled on through Stage IV Kidney Cancer for over seven years with the dedicated support and advocacy of his loving wife Brandi Myers Barrick of Carlisle, PA and their incredible son, Cooper Wayne Barrick, who just turned five.  Doug also leaves behind his furry friends Sydney, who sat by his side during his battle, as well as Sophie and Gidget.

Doug was predeceased in death by his father, Wayne W. Barrick.  He is survived by his mother, Wanda Wright, brother, Jeffrey Barrick, sister, Kandice McCartney and brother-in-law, Matt McCartney.  He is also survived by his chosen family, mother and father-in-law, Bambi and Harper Myers, sister-in-law Shanon Myers and brother and sister-in-law Harper and Carey Myers, along with multiple nieces, nephews and great nephews.

Doug was a soldier until the end, always proud of the men he served with during his time in the US Army.  Doug served in the 3rd Armored Division Echo Company 1/48th in Gelnhausen, Germany and he especially enjoyed his time serving with the 1st Calvary Division at Fort Hood Texas.  Doug graduated from Big Spring High School and after his military career, he attended school at Harrisburg Area Community College to become a certified radiology technician.  Doug put those skills to good use working alongside fellow service men and finishing his radiology technician career at the Lebanon Veteran's Administration. While working as a radiology technician at Holy Spirit Hospital he met his wife, Brandi.  In 2017, Doug and Brandi were married in Harrisburg at the Matthew Ryan Building and on September 10th, 2019, they welcomed their son Cooper to their family.  Cooper brought so much joy to Doug, and he would light up anytime he talked about his "little buddy".  Doug was also a member of the Cumberland Valley Sportsman Association.

He loved spending time with his family camping and was quite the horticulturalist, always tending to his plants or working in his garden.  He enjoyed projects around the house and had become quite a skilled chef in the kitchen, often entertaining others even when he wasn't able to join in.  Doug loved attending gun shows and particularly loved the craftsmanship and mechanics of guns.  His dry sense of humor would always pop out unexpectedly and make you smile.  Doug was a lover of music and movies from the 1970's, so in the words of Christopher Cross, "Ride like the wind to be free again", you will be greatly missed Doug.

A celebration of life will be held on September 27th, 2024, at 11:00 am at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors. A reception will follow at the Two Mile House in Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the go fund me to help support Brandi and Cooper:   https://gofund.me/82397580. www.EwingBrothers.com
