Doris M. Handshew, 93, of Newville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Mercy House of Chambersburg.  She was born on December 28, 1930, in Carlisle, and was a daughter of the late Floyd and Evelyn (Tice) Shreffler and the widow of Charles L. Handshew, who passed away on May 8, 2017.

Doris graduated from Boiling Springs High School.  She worked for many years and retired from Martson Law Offices in Carlisle, where she was a secretary and rental property manager.  Doris and her late husband bred and showed Quarter Horses for many years.  She loved all her dogs, especially "Joey" (Shih Tzu breed) who recently passed.

She is survived by one daughter Roxanne (Handshew) Bumbaugh of Newburg, three grandchildren; Stacy Shank and husband Dean, Troy Scott and Angie Minnich and husband Daryl, a half-brother Floyd "Sonny" Cox of Newville, a half-sister Charlotte Henery of Salem, WV, 5 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister Isabella Anderson.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Glen Blackstone officiating.  The burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
