Obituary

Doris L. Campbell, 90, of Carlisle, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 27, 1925 in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Rev. Joseph and Louisa (Grey) Fortune, and was the widow of Charles W. Campbell, who died June 2, 1987.

Doris graduated from Carlisle High School. She retired from James Wilson Safe Harbour and Murata Erie Frequency Control, both of Carlisle. She was a longtime member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Carlisle, where she played the organ for 70 years, was a Pastor's Steward for 30 years, Chairperson of the Ways and Means Committee and was the first Missionary President for the Carlisle-York area. Doris was the former President of the Golden Girls Sisters Club and formerly served on the interview selection committee for Carlisle Opportunity Homes.

She is survived by two granddaughters; Ivy (Dana) Berry of Carlisle and Kimani (Garth) Superville of Washington D.C., four great-grandchildren; Raven and Jazmyn Campbell, Daija Berry and Xavier Jackson, one great-great-granddaughter, Nyla Timmons, one great-great-grandson on the way and a host of other family members and friends. Doris was predeceased by one son, Barry Campbell, one daughter, Charlee Ivy and one sister, Ruth Fortune.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 131 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, with Presiding Elder Rev. Lawrence C. Henryhand officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewings will be held at the church on Thursday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to her church.
