IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Ann
Bitner
May 22, 1926 – August 2, 2023
Doris (Dot) Ann Bitner, age 97, completed her journey on this earth and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 2, 2023, at 10:40 am at Cornerstone Hospice - Casa Bella House in The Villages, Florida with family by her side. Dot was born in Carlisle, PA on May 22, 1926, to David Richcreek and Bertha Riggleman Richcreek. She was one of 12 children. Six boys and six girls.
Dot was a hard worker and worked many years at Reeves Hoffman in Carlisle, PA. She and Clayton were married for almost 60 years before his death on August 17, 2005. Most of their married life was spent on a farm where Clayton worked. In the summer Clayton planted a large garden and Dot would come home from work and the two would do their canning. Dot also loved her flowers, both inside and out. She had the best green thumb and could take most any dying plant and bring it back to life.
Dot was also a caregiver. After her retirement she took care of Clayton through his cancer treatments and until his death. She also would spend evenings feeding her sister Ethel who was in a nursing home. Afterward she had a soft heart for her sister and niece and nephew who also lost spouses.
Dot also liked to bake pies. Her choices being cherry, rhubarb, and pumpkin. If you were going to visit, she was sure to have pie. Dot and Clayton's most cherished activity was their church. Dot attended Wesleyan Church of the Cross until her move to assisted living.
Dot is survived by her son Samuel (Michele) Bitner, daughter Crystal (Glenn) Adams, granddaughter René (Paul) Mumford, grandsons Brian (Cheryl) Adams and Craig (Tammy) Adams, sisters Mary Reed, Shirley (Park) Dunbar, and Margaret (Peggy) (Charles) Sheriff. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton Bitner, her grandson, Jeffrey Bitner, sister Ethel Bitner, brothers Curtis, William (Bill), James (Jim), Eugene (Gene), Marlin, and Sylvan Richcreek.
A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.
