Obituary

Dixie L. (Spitz) Grimes, 80, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at her home.  She was born on November 4, 1941, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Herman and Dorothy (Stum) Spitz and was the widow of Ralph E. Grimes, who died April 3, 2005, and Merl Barrick who died in 1989.

Dixie retired from the Carlisle Area School District where she worked many years in custodial services.  She was a member of the Friends in Christ Church, Newville, and a life member of the Carlisle V.F.W.  The family would like to thank all for the thoughts and prayers throughout her illness.

She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly A. (David Stum) Snyder of Trenton, TN, and Lisa D. Cromer of Carlisle, one son Billy R. (wife Leisa) Russell of Carlisle, one brother Roger C. Spitz, 12 grandchildren including her caregivers Nichole Henry and Goldie Soler, several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Dixie was preceded in death by one son Dale L. Cromer, three brothers, Elmer Porter, Herman Spitz, and Robert Spitz and two sisters, Helen Casey, and Mary Linsenbach.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Chuck Dunkle as the officiant.  Burial will be in Mt.
