IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis P.
Medvid
February 25, 1939 – January 28, 2025
Dennis "Dennie" P. Medvid passed away on January 28, 2025, in Carlisle at the age of 85. He was born on February 25, 1939, in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Stephanie (Anderchin), son Mike Medvid of Carlisle, daughter Gretchen (Joe) Garlington of Leesburg, Virginia, granddaughters Katherine and Elizabeth Garlington, sister Elaine Kandravy, and brother Richard Medvid, wife Cindy, and sister-in-law Debbie Medvid, a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Michael Medvid, and brother Stephen "Skip" Medvid.
He grew up in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Saint Luke's High School in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. As a youth, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Devotion to his country was very important to him. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a Korea veteran. His Catholic faith was a major part of his life. He attended Saint Patrick Church in Carlisle and was a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society for 25 years. Carlisle Elks Lodge #578 counted him as one of their life members. He served as chairman of the Elks' Veterans Affairs Committee for 10 years. He was named "Elk of the Year" for 2005-2006.
After many years of service, he retired from PPG Industries in Mount Holly Springs in 2000. One of his favorite pastimes was using his chainsaw and log splitter to cut firewood for the wood stove. A highlight of his week was his Tuesday morning "ROMEO" (Real Old Men Eating Out) breakfast meetings with his buddies at a favorite local diner. He was a devoted "Papa" to his two beloved granddaughters.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, February 6th at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., with the Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
