Dennis E. Matthews, Sr., 78, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at UPMC Carlisle.  He was born on February 26, 1947, in Mechanicsburg and was a son of the late Hobert Matthews and Dorothea (Stoner) Baumbach.

Denny graduated from Cumberland Valley High School with the class of 1965.  He retired from Sysco Foods Inc. after 35 years as a Sales Representative.  After retirement, Denny spent several years as a driver for Sun Motors in Mechanicsburg.  He was a member of the former St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Carlisle Springs, the Carlisle Jaycees, Carlisle Elks and the Carlisle Club.  Denny enjoyed fishing especially in Canada with his son.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Bonita K. "Bonnie" (Sheaffer) Matthews, his children, Dennis (wife Keri) Matthews, Jr. of New Jersey, Denise (husband Brian) Mills of Maryland and Darren (wife Shannon) Matthews of Perry County, two half-brothers, Jack and Erick Matthews, one half-sister Beth Miller, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.  Pastor Michael Baker will be the officiant.  The burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
