Obituary

David L. Hittie, 65, of Carlisle, died suddenly on Saturday, June 14, 2014, in York County doing what he loved, playing volleyball. He was born on August 7, 1948, in Brothersvalley Twp., Somerset County, a son of the late Robert E. and Inalee G. (Bittner) Hittie.

David was a 1966 graduate of Susquehannock High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Penn State University. He worked many years as an Industrial Engineer for the former C. H. Masland & Sons, Carlisle, and was most recently employed by the Carlisle Area School District as an Instructional Aide. David loved working with the teachers, staff and students of Mount Holly and Hamilton Elementary Schools. David was an avid volleyball player and enjoyed attending his sons' volleyball and musical events. David was proud that at 65, he beat both of his sons at racquetball! He enjoyed gardening and making his special zucchini bread with his fresh grown zucchini. David also enjoyed water skiing.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 26 years, Robin (Minshull) Hittie, two sons; Jonathan D. and Benjamin R. Hittie, both students at Penn State University, two brothers; Robert Hittie of New Freedom and Lester Hittie of Coxs Mills, WV, four sisters; Helen Laughman of Red Lion, Geraldine Tipton ofBroadview Heights, OH, Gladys Keeney and Melva Moser, both of York and many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by one sister, Annabelle Nace.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St.; Carlisle. Rev. Eric Shafer will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, 90 Hope Dr., A120; P. O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852.
