HEAVEN just got Better !

Colonel Robert "Bob" Spieth, age 101 / Apr 26, 1914, from Naples, FL completed his last Mission on November 19, 2015, joining his predeceased (2000) wife June of 58 yrs and son (1986) Bobby; all former residents (1963-2000) of Boiling Springs / Carlisle, PA.

Colonel Spieth is survived by his brother Chuck (TX), son Rick (Naples, FL), grandson Rick (Soho, NYC) and many adoring friends and relatives everywhere..

Dad, as a kid from Woodlawn, Bronx NY, was an avid Boy Scout, earning the rare Eagle Scout rank in 1928. Through his Scout training, he was honored for saving the life of a drowning boy and was selected to accompany Admiral Byrd on the expedition to the South Pole.

Colonel Spieth was a 30 year officer in the Army Air Corps / USAF serving in the South Pacific, Alaska, Germany, England and finally at the Pentagon as an Intelligence Officer with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retiring in 1965. Dad later joined the Hemlock Girl Scouts in Harrisburg for a 15 year career as Property Manager for all their Pennsylvania camp facilities.

Colonel Spieth wrote his memoirs which can be found in the Library of Congress and gave a personal recollection of his service days in an interview in Naples which can be "Googled".

Dad enjoyed shooting pool at home, was a prolific reader of newspapers and magazines and a fan of Sunday morning news talk-shows. He particularly cherished the visits from grandson Rick to see his "Pap". Dad was a Life-member of the Carlisle ELKS and Boiling Springs VFW organizations.

Dad was an ardent believer of Duty, Honor, Country and Family who lived by the Codes of the Boy Scoutsgood old-fashioned traits sadly ignored today. Dad was a happy-go-lucky guy that everyone enjoyed being with. He had a joyous smile, a terrific sense of humor and was kind & fair to all. His passion -- never missed -- was a Gin n Tonic everyday for Happy Hour.

A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Chris Schwab officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. In lieu of flowers and cards, PLEASE give to the Wounded Warriors Project and your local Hospice Care Organization.

I was delighted how comfortable it was to write this obituaryperhaps because I am so very fortunate and grateful to have had such a wonderful father, mentor and very Best Friend all my life.
