Clyo E. Keene, 102, of Carlisle, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Church of God Home, Carlisle. She was born on September 5, 1911 in Harriman, TN a daughter of the late Claude and Eola (Spivey) Lyle.

Clyo graduated from Knoxville Tennessee High School in 1930. She attended college in Nashville for two years, pursuing a teaching degree. After college, she moved to Pennsylvania and worked as a clerk at the Carlisle Barracks for several years and later on retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot.

She was the widow of Thomas L. Keene, Jr. who passed away April 18, 1977. During their marriage they enjoyed traveling with some of her favorite places being Australia, Italy and Germany.

Clyo was a long time member of West Street African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Carlisle. She served on the Deaconess Board, Lay Council and was a "Mother of the Church". Clyo was a member of the Anna Johnson Memorial Class. She enjoyed being in the company of her church family and sharing the love of God. She was also a member of the "Golden Girls" club of Carlisle.

She is survived by one niece, Lida Keene Collier of Beverly Hills, FL, one nephew, William Gregory Love of Harriman, TN and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother Robert Lyle.

A viewing will begin at 12:00 noon followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Kenneth R. Newman, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorials may be made to West Street A. M. E. Zion Church, 132-136 S. West Str., Carlisle, PA 17013.
