Obituary

Clair H. Knarr, 68, of Carlisle, passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, July 5, 2010, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 10, 1941, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Burnette H. and Martha (Dobson) Knarr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Rynard) Knarr, who died in 1984.

Clair graduated from Sykesville High School in 1959 and served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. He was employed by AMP Inc. and retired as plant manager of the East Berlin plant in 1998 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle and where he was a member of the Usher Association. Clair was also a member of Cumberland Star F&AM Lodge 197, Carlisle, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Zembo Shriners in Harrisburg. He enjoyed restoring furniture, gardening, designing scenery for his 0-Scale trains, family gatherings, traveling and especially his four grandsons.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Shirley M. (Farner) Lebo Knarr, two sons; Keith E. (and his wife, Amy) Knarr of Fairfax, VA and Dr. Chad M. Knarr of Asheville, NC, two daughters; Stacy (Lebo) (and her husband, Tony) Breon of Newville and Kelli (Lebo) (and her husband, Thom) Wolf of Carlisle, a brother, Louis Knarr of Carlisle, two sisters; Donna Hahn of Griffin, GA and Wilma Finn of Columbia Heights, MN, four grandsons; Griffin Knarr, Cody Breon, Zachary Wolf and Alexander Wolf. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lulu Hoffman.

Funeral services to celebrate Clair's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010, in Grace United Methodist Church, 45 S. West St., Carlisle with Rev. Bruce Fensterbush and Rev. Paul Herring officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the services.
