Charles F. Sheriff, 93, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. He was born on December 19, 1930, in Carlisle and was a son of the late Mervin Raymond Sheriff, Sr. and Evelyn L. (Calaman) Sheriff.
Charlie served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a longtime carpenter in the Carlisle area and worked for Bob Noll Construction, later with Jeff Austin and then Letterman Construction. Charlie also drove the courtesy car at Family Ford, Carlisle. He was a longtime member of the former Wesleyan Church of The Cross on "B" Street, Carlisle. Charlie enjoyed the great outdoors of Pennsylvania, especially hunting. He was a life member of the North American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years Margaret "Peggy" M. (Richcreek) Sheriff, two sons, Michael (wife Penny) Sheriff of Carlisle and Keith (wife Barb) Sheriff of Spring Hill, FL, one daughter Julie (husband Dale) Shambaugh of Carlisle, one sister Frances Bailey, three stepbrothers, John, Dale and Harry Sheriff, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Mervin Sheriff, Jr., two sisters, Bertha Bitner and Darlene Stough and one stepbrother Woodrow Sheriff.
The visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Eric Mosemann officiating. The burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. www.EwingBrothers.com.
