Charles J. "Charlie" Fraker, 84, of Carlisle, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Sunday, April 24, 1927, in Carlisle, a son of the late Frank B. and Dorothy (Myers) Fraker.
Charlie was a US Army veteran of WWII and worked in the masonry construction industry for 35 years. He was formerly employed with Mike Delancey Construction and Raymond Shearer Construction, both of Carlisle. After retiring from masonry work, Charlie worked for 10 years with Dauphin Distribution Co., Mechanicsburg. He also owned and operated a small family farm in North Middleton Twp. He formerly attended the Plainfield First Church of God and was a member of the South Mountain American Legion Post 674. Charlie enjoyed bus tours and watching his sons and grandsons play softball.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Violet M. (Gordon) Fraker, four sons; Michael E. (and his wife, Sheree) Fraker, James L. (and his wife, Cindy) Fraker, Dennis L. (and his wife, Bonnie) Fraker, all of Carlisle and Terry A. Fraker (and his companion, Cathy "Shortie" Gibson) of Gardners, four daughters; Gloria M. (and her husband, Wayne) Burgett of Wasilla, Alaska, Darlene M. (and her husband, Ethan) Miller, Sandy L. (and her husband, Alvin) Bonawitz and Peggy S. (and her husband, Joe) Stimeling, all of Carlisle, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Frederick Fraker, who died in 2008, four brothers, William, Frank, Lee and Richard Fraker and two sisters, Emma Mountz and Jean Gleim.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 South Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Kevin Dunlap officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be held onTuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the services. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made in Charles Fraker's name to the Children's Miracle Network, PO Box 855, Hershey, PA 17033.
