Carolyn J. Hoover, 78, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Church of God Home in Carlisle. She was born on February 4, 1942 in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Foster E. Hockenberry and Rena M. (Rhinehardt) Hockenberry and was the widow of John J. Hoover who died April 24, 2013.
She and John loved to ride his motorcycle and traveled by motorcycle to many states on the East Coast. Her twin grandchildren were the love of her life, and she was so proud of their many achievements. Carolyn was a very talented artist. Her handcrafted Santas and her crocheted baby blankets, baby dresses, sweaters and bonnets are treasured by many family members. She was employed at the Bedford Shoe Co. and retired from AMP, Inc with 19 years of service as an auditor. Carolyn was a member of the Big Spring United Lutheran Church, Newville.
Survived by two sons; Edward Shearer of Newville and Robert (Carole) Shearer of York, twin grandchildren, Natalie and Nicholas Shearer of York, one sister, Cleo Hosler of Newville, sister-in-laws; Shirley Hockenberry of Pontiac, Illinois and Judy Hockenberry of Newville, one brother-in-law, Melvin Wolfe of Dillsburg, several step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers, Herman, Paul, Carl, Jay, Clair and Raymond and by sisters, Marie Diehl, Norma Hostetter, Annabelle Allard, Florence Webber, Ruth Keck, Linda Motter Gensler and Eva Wolf.
A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020 followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Molly Haggerty officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Big Spring United Lutheran Church, 101 Crossroad School Rd., Newville, PA 17241. www.Since1853.com.
