Obituary

Carl "Jeff" L. Davis, Sr., 91, of Carlisle, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. He was born on Tuesday, February 17, 1920, in Carlisle, a son of the late Leo John Davis and Sarah H. (Glass) Davis and was married to the late Sara (Mains) Davis, who died April 23, 1990.

He was a 1939 graduate of Carlisle High School and served in the Army Air Force in Okinawa during WWII. Carl had worked as a foreman for the former Carlisle Garment Factory for many years and retired from Dickinson College, Carlisle after more than 10 years of service. He was the first manager of the Exchange Club Team with the Carlisle Baseball Teener League and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Carl also enjoyed traveling the United States and visited every state except Alaska. He was of Protestant faith.

He is survived by two sons; Carl L., Jr. (and his wife, Bonnie) Davis of Shippensburg, Dr. Ronald M. (and his wife, Elizabeth) Davis of Vincennes, IN, a sister, Dorothy Porto of Carlisle, grandchildren; Lisa, Molli, Scott, Christopher and Elizabeth Davis and several nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by brother, John G. Davis, sister, Louise Elicker, a half-sister, Anna Refner and three half-brothers; Virgil, Henry and Kenneth Refner.

A celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Jeanette Mater officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O.
