Bruce C. Dalway, 65, of Carlisle, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Forest Park Health Center in Carlisle. He was born on Monday, December 24, 1945, in Grand Rapids, MI, and was a son of the late Retired Major Benjamin C. Dalway, US Army and Lt. Evelyn (Collins) Dalway Roberts, US Army. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Charmaine C. (Houck) Dalway, who died Dec. 2, 2007.
Bruce graduated from the Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, VA and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree from York College. He also attended graduate school at the University of Baltimore. Bruce was the former Information Resource Manager and Government Marketing Representative at York Industries for 15 years and had worked earlier in the textile industry, both in Pennsylvania and Arizona. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle and was currently an Elder and had held earlier positions as a Trustee at the church. He was the leader of the Friday Morning Men's Bible Fellowship Group and was the representative of the congregation on the Carlisle CARES board. Bruce was instrumental in the establishment of "Celebrate Creation Day" at the church, and had a great love of animals and God's creatures. He and his beloved canine companion "Rocky" made regular visits to nursing homes with the Red Cross Visiting Pet Program. An avid runner and fitness enthusiast, Bruce was a regular at the YMCA and participated in many road and mountain runs in Central Pennsylvania. Bruce was a kind and gentle man who was greatly involved with his church and outreach programs in the community. His friendship, kindness and dedicated work in his church and community will be greatly missed.
He is survived by "Rocky", a sister, Priscilla Dalway and her companion, John Bilotta of Tampa, FL, an aunt, Margaret Collins of Grand Rapids, MI, three nephews, a step-daughter, Terry (and her husband, Sharpe) Over of Newville and three step-grandchildren. The family is so very grateful for the selfless care and great compassion shown to Bruce during his illness by the members of Second Presbyterian Church, the three Dennises, Celtic Hospice and good friend and neighbor, Graham Vernon.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Dr., Carlisle. Rev. Jeff Gibelius and Rev. Jennifer McKenna will officiate. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the services at the church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle Cares, Cumberland Area Resource Center, 50 W. Penn St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
