OBITUARY FOR BLAINE GIBSON HODGE
SUNRISE ON 4-11-1942 AND SUNSET ON 8-9-2024
Blaine was born in Carlisle on April 11, 1942, to the late Mary Jane Hodge Lee.
Blaine loved the Lord. His hobby was to serve the Lord and bless others. His favorite scripture was ~ Psalm 100:2-5 "Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God; It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture."
Blaine entered the United States Marine Corp at an early age and received his GED. He was an airplane mechanic, served at Camp Lejeune and served abroad from 1960 to 1965. Blaine retired from 3-mile Island as a laborer and then became a self-contractor helping people in the community whether he was cutting someone's grass, helping move people or fixing something in someone's home. Blaine was the first Uber driver as he loved transporting people to church, doctors' appointments, grocery store or wherever they needed to go. Blaine was a sports advocate.
Blaine loved being the caretaker of the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Harrisburg for over 30 years where he oversaw the building maintenance, food bank, served on the men's chorus "The Disciples", the adult choir, a trustee and served as the Deacon Ministry Chairman. Blaine served on the Board of Directors of the Laborers Local Union #1180 in Harrisburg, PA for over 15 years as well as the Executive Board and the International Level. Blaine was also a Legionnaire at The American Legion Post 826 in Carlisle.
Blaine is proceeded in death by his mother Mary Jane Hodge-Lee and sister Lillian Hodge and is survived by Brothers, Donald Hodge of Carlisle and George Hodge (Joy) of Phoenix, Arizona, Sister Barbara Arter, Sister Roberta Hodge of Carlisle and Sister Marty Kay Hodge of Harrisburg and had a special relationship with his niece Caussia Hodge of Carlisle as well as a host of other nieces and nephews. While Blaine did not have any biological children, he fostered many children from all the world and community.
A visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Reverend Israel J. Springs, Pastor officiating. The burial will be at a date to be determined at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with military honors. www.EwingBrothers.com.
