Betty Jane Whistler, 84, of Carlisle, died Sunday, August 14, 2011, at her home. She was born on Friday, July 22, 1927, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Irvin E. and Ida Mae (Mayberry) Hair, and the widow of Harry Whistler, Jr., who died Feb. 21, 2009.

Betty was homemaker and helped manage and operate the family farm in South Middleton Twp. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and grandchildren, her cats, music, cooking, watching television and feeding and watching birds.

She is survived by one son, Richard J. "Rick" (and his wife, Kathryn) Whistler of Newville, three daughters; Donna E. (and her husband, William) Allen of Harrisburg, Sharon S. (and her husband, Chris) Kelly of Carlisle and Cathy A. (and her husband, Lester) Rockey of Swanton, VT, five grandchildren; Michele, Daniel and Brian Kelly and Jason and Scott Whistler, one great-grandson, Camden Kelly and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers; James, Lewis, Dale and Earl Hair and sisters; Pearl Raudabaugh, Erma Jumper and Ethel Lay.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the LeTort Cemetery, Claremont Rd, Carlisle, with Rev. Keith Searfoss officiating. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Healthcare of Harrisburg, 4660 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
