Betty Brannan Enders, 101 years, a beloved mother, mother-in-law, "grammy," aunt and friend, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025 surrounded by family at the Thornwald Home in Carlisle. Betty brought warmth and kindness into every room she entered for more than a century. Born on November 6, 1924 in Shippensburg, Betty was a daughter of the late Harry Brannan and Rachael (Gardner) Brannan. She was also the cherished wife of John L. Enders for 58 years, before he passed away in 2009.
Betty graduated from Newville High School in 1943 and proudly served as part of the "Rosie the Riveter" workforce assembling planes during World War II. She was then a loving homemaker before working for the Carlisle Area School District for more than 30 years, serving in the cafeterias at the former Stevens Elementary School and Bellaire Elementary School. Betty was also a long-time, dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Walnut Bottom.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Rebecca J. Karoly (John) of Allentown and Betsy L. Shaffer (Timothy) of Elizabethtown; two grandsons, John Peter "JP" Karoly (Rebecca), and Joshua Enders Karoly (Brittany); and five great-grandchildren, John ("Jack"), Evelyn, Samuel, Grace and Price. She is also survived by several treasured nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Enders; an infant son, Brian L. Enders; two brothers, Harry and John Brannan; and four sisters, Helen Houp, Hazel Fink, Crystal Wilson and Dorothy Hammond.
Friends and family will join to celebrate Betty's life on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 118 W. Main St., Walnut Bottom. A memorial service honoring Betty's life will immediately follow. Burial will occur after the service in the nearby Rehoboth Cemetery in Walnut Bottom. A luncheon will be held at the Fellowship Center adjacent to the Church immediately following the burial ceremony.
