Betty Jane Caldwell, 89, of Carlisle, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at UPMC Carlisle.  She was born on August 5, 1930 in Carlisle, the daughter of the late Ernest and Velma (Diller) Shover.  Betty was the widow of Richard M. Caldwell, who passed away in 1980.  One sister, Jean Shover Morrison, also preceded her in death.

Betty was a 1948 graduate of Carlisle High School and a graduate of the Carlisle Commercial College.  She worked for PHEAA with the State of PA for several years.  She was a faithful and active member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle where she served as a Deacon, and a member of the Carlisle Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.  Betty was a loving homemaker, caring for family and friends whenever needed.  She served her mother for many years as her primary caregiver.   Betty enjoyed entertaining and was known for her culinary skills.  Generations of friends knew they were in for a treat when Betty was cooking.  She was especially known for her delicious pies, and took requests for many celebrations. Betty also spent many afternoons engaged in a spirited game of bridge with the girls.

She is survived by two sons, Richard and David Caldwell both of Carlisle, and two daughters, Carol Caldwell Tucker of Newville, and Susan Caldwell and her husband Gerry O'Hearn of Lamy, NM.  All of Betty's children are grateful for the last months and final days spent together with their mother.

A visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S.
