Betty Jane "BJ" Black, 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at home. She was born on October 7, 1930 in Coraopolis, PA, and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Iva (Mixter) Merriman and the widow of Thomas Black, who passed away in 2014.

Betty was a 1948 graduate of Moon Township High School, PA. She worked at Pittsburgh Gear and for the past 20 years as the bookkeeper at Market Cross Pub & Brewery, Carlisle. Betty was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Sewickley Chapter, andan avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Goss of Carlisle, one sister, Donna Custer, of Carnegie, PA, one granddaughter, Ashleigh Goss Corby, Carlisle, one grandson, Richard Morrison Jr., four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Merriman and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Goss.
