Barbara Ann (Policastro) Marra took the Lord's hand and entered eternal rest on the 23rd of August, 2026, at Evertrue Cumberland Crossings Nursing Home in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She was born on August 3, 1934, in Hoboken, New Jersey, to the late Cornelius and Mary Policastro and was the youngest of two children.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and woman of deep faith whose life was defined by her love for family and her unwavering commitment to serving others. She married the love of her life, Anthony L. Marra, on December 7, 1958. Their marriage of more than sixty-seven years was marked by partnership, adventure, faith, and enduring devotion.

Barbara lived a full and productive life and excelled in many areas, but she was known first and foremost as a woman of faith, a loving wife and mother, and a compassionate geriatric nurse. For decades, she cared for countless elderly patients throughout northern New Jersey, bringing comfort, dignity, and kindness to those entrusted to her care. Her gentle spirit, attentive care, and sincere compassion touched the lives of many families during their most vulnerable moments.

A descendant of Italian immigrants, Barbara spent her childhood in Hoboken and was educated in both public and Catholic schools. She graduated from Demarest High School and later attended St. Mary's Nursing School. She was part of the large and close-knit Policastro and Petrizzo families, whose members contributed to the growth and development of northern New Jersey through their work in transportation, construction, manufacturing, and numerous other professions. Family members were involved in the early Teamsters movement when goods were transported by horse-drawn teams and worked in the textile mills that helped clothe a growing nation. From them, Barbara inherited a strong work ethic, deep faith, and steadfast commitment to family.

During her years at Demarest High School, Barbara served as the lead majorette, proudly leading school events and spirit-filled gatherings. Her enthusiasm, leadership, and love of community were qualities that remained with her throughout her life.

Together, Barbara and Anthony built homes and communities wherever life led them—from New Jersey to Florida, Maryland, and ultimately Pennsylvania. They lovingly restored a Victorian home in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, before designing and building an ultra-modern home near the waters of the Gulf Coast in Freeport, Florida. Later, they moved to Frederick, Maryland, to be closer to their daughter Barbara and eventually settled in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to enjoy precious time with their grandchildren.

Barbara was the heart of her family. She created warm and welcoming homes while supporting her husband's military and professional career. Her greatest joy came from her children, Barbara, Michael, and Ann, and later from her beloved grandchildren, Molly and Max. Family gatherings, holidays, celebrations, and quiet moments together were among her greatest treasures.

Barbara's Catholic faith guided every aspect of her life. She was an active parishioner, a compassionate friend, and a source of strength and encouragement to all who knew her. Faith was not simply something she practiced; it was the foundation upon which she built her life.

One of the great spiritual highlights of Barbara and Anthony's life together was celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, Maryland. They found inspiration and renewal through pilgrimages to many sacred places around the world, including the Holy Land in Israel, Lourdes in France, and Conyers, Georgia. These journeys deepened their faith and strengthened their commitment to a life centered on gratitude, generosity, and service.

Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, grace, wisdom, and steadfast love. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the patients she comforted, the friends she encouraged, and the faith she so faithfully lived. Her example of devotion, compassion, and service will continue to inspire generations to come.

Barbara is survived by her children, Barbara, Michael, and Ann; her cherished grandchildren, Molly and Max; and numerous extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and example.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-seven years, Anthony L. Marra; her mother, Mary Policastro; her brother, Anthony Policastro; and her father, Cornelius Policastro.

After sharing more than six decades of marriage, Barbara was reunited in eternity with her beloved Anthony. Though deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and takes comfort in knowing that she now rests in the loving presence of her Lord and Savior.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. in the St. Patrick Shrine Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Rev. George Valliamthadathil will be the Celebrant.
