August W. "Buddy" Saporito, 85, of Chester and formerly of Carlisle, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. He was born on Thursday, June 26, 1924, in Orange, NJ, a son of the late Anthony and Jennie (Bozzelli) Saporito. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley A. (Green) Saporito, who died June 15, 1978.
Buddy graduated from Orange High School in New Jersey with the Class of 1943, and attended City College in New York City and North Carolina State College. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1963, after 20 years active military service. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War andearned many honors and medals for his service to his country. After his military career, Buddy was employed at the Carlisle Barracks for 18 years, where he was in charge of Morale Support Activities. He most recently owned and operated with his current wife, Song Hui, the Chester News in Chester.Buddy formerly owned and operated the Carlisle News Stand and the former 7 - 11 Convenience Store on Noble Blvd. in Carlisle. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle, The Sons of Italy anda former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandson and was an avid Notre Dame fan.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Song Hui Saporito, two sons; John A. Saporito of Royersford and David B. (and his wife, Lyndi) Saporito of Hanover, three daughters; Karen L. Saporito, Lisa M. Saporito and Gina K. (and her husband, Kerry) Vincent all of Carlisle, four brothers; Anthony of Verona, NJ, Angelo of Scranton, John of Bayville, NJ and Frederick of Bethlehem, a sister, Catherine Manturi of Manahawkin, NJ, six grandchildren; Anthony, Jonathan, Andrew and Angelo Saporito and Zachary and Alexis Vincent, a great-grandson, Augustino "Tino" Saporito, a step-son, John A. Yim and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, with Rev. Daniel J. Menniti officiating. Burial will be private. Viewing will be held on Monday from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul School, 224 3rd St., Hanover, PA 17331.
