Obituary

Arthur E. Leigh, 88, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully in his home in the Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. He was born on February 18, 1929, in Philadelphia to John J. Leigh and Margaret (Delacour) Leigh, and was raised in Drexel Hill, PA. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, a son Richard (Kerry) Leigh of Carlisle, a daughter Mary Ellen (Steven) Laws of Downingtown, and four grandchildren; John Leigh of Carlisle; David Laws of Seattle, WA; Colin Laws of Newark, DE and Marissa Laws of Downingtown, and also his beloved cat, Bobby.

Mr. Leigh graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the Army of Occupation in Japan. He attended the University of Tampa and graduated from St. Joseph University in Philadelphia. He also attended the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, earning the designations of CLU, Chartered Life Underwriter, and CFC, Chartered Financial Consultant. He worked for John Hancock and the Insurance Company of North America, and eventually opened his own agency. He was licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

He was successful in his field and often qualified for conventions held in places like Hong Kong; Monte Carlo; Marbella, Spain; Hawaii; London. His wife accompanied him and after the conventions they would rent a car and do additional traveling. They went to Europe a number of times other than when they were attending conventions. They also traveled in Mexico and in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. In the early 1990's, they opted for the RV lifestyle, and traveled extensively in this country and Canada for fifteen years, visiting nearly all the national parks in both countries. In addition, they began to spend most of the winter in Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 in St Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr, Carlisle, with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey officiating A luncheon will be held immediately after the service at the church. Inurnment with military honors will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Donations in his memory may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries at Cumberland Crossings. www.since1853.com
