Arthur B. Fisher, Jr. ("Corky"), 69, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center, following a three year battle with cancer. He was born on Saturday, April 26, 1941, in Lancaster and was the son of the late Arthur B. Fisher, Sr. and Elva Mary (Bachman) Fisher.
"Corky" retired as SGT. after serving more than 30 years in the National Guard. He was a Tank Operator, Unit Supply SGT, Medical Specialist, Administrative Specialist and Radio Operator. He was a member of the RSROA, ASRSA skating organizations and was a State Regional and National Champion in speed skating. "Corky" was also a member of RSA International, SRSTA (Society Of Roller Skating Teachers Of America). He taught at many skating rinks including Rocky Springs, Overlook, Buck, Mary Janes, Docs, Olympic Skating (Special Olympics), Midway, Magic Elm, Fountain Blu, Shrewsbury Rink, Greenfield and Park City. He was one of the first Eastern Coasters to participate in the Roller Derby, skating on a banked rink. He coined the phrase "Shuffle Skating". He belonged to the skate teams, Texas Outlaws and Los Angeles Thunderbirds. He also played hockey at these rinks. He was a referee for HARD Roller Derby. "Corky" was a very talented musician who played guitar, banjo and keyboard in several rock and roll bands during the late 1950's and 1960's.
"Corky" is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cynthia Sue (Metzger) Fisher, four daughters; Desirae (and husband, Chad) Moyer, Jenifer C. Fisher, Tersa Tripple, and Cori Kurz, three sons; Robert S. Fisher, Corky Jr., 3rd and Gregory S. Fisher, four grandchildren; Christy and Matthew Tripple and Brittany and Chad Shuab, a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Kendig, a sister, Roberta "Bobbi" Eckman, a niece, Tonya Eckman and three grand-nieces; Raven, Cheyenne and Lakota Eckman.
Following the wishes of "Corky" there will be no viewing or funeral services. He donated his body to science at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. A memorial celebration, "In Memory Of Corky Skate" will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. at the Olympic Skating Center, 60 Shady Lane, Enola, PA.
