Anna May Graves, 85, of West Lawn and formerly of Boiling Springs, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 in the St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading. She was born on January 9, 1931 in Carlisle, and was a daughter of the late John Thomas Staruh and Marguerite (Farabelli) Staruh Campbell. She was the widow of Frederick O. Graves, III, who died Nov. 24, 2007.
Anna May attended Carlisle High School. In 1949, Anna May was selected as Miss Carlisle Fair and Miss Carlisle Shoe. She had worked for the former Carlisle Shoe Co., Allenberry Inn & Playhouse and began her own Mary Kay business at the age of 50 which she continued into her 85th year. She was a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle where she was a former Sunday School secretary. Anna May assisted the Boiling Springs Civic Association with the Children's Lake Project. She enjoyed many things in life including; entertaining, dance, old movies and Italian and Gospel music. Anna May assisted her late husband in his wedding photography business by doing the bridal parties makeup. Also, she and her late husband were selected for a senior television commercial.
She is survived by two daughters; Linda S. Dyaraman of Carlisle and Judith A. Hess of West Lawn, one sister, Mary Ann Bryner of Elizabethtown, five grandchildren; Adrienne R. Bohn, Gabrielle E. Warner, Jonathan N. Hess, Melina A. Hess and Aaron L. Dyaraman, two great-granddaughters; Katie E. Warner and Mia Hess. She was predeceased by one brother, John Thomas Staruh, two half-brothers; Eugene Campbell and Frankie Campbell and one half-sister, Cathy Shearer.
A visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle. Rev. Harry L. Knisely and Chaplain Brydie Harris officiating. Burial will be in LeTort Cemetery, Middlesex Twp. with a reception to follow in the parish hall at St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle.
